The Pittsford District Retired Teachers' Association
consisting of 370 retirees of Pittsford Central School
was formed in 1982 with a comprehensive constitution.

There are eleven stated purposes. They are:

  1. To facilitate the development of friendships among fellow retirees.

  2. To establish and maintain an affiliation and continuing relationship with the Board of Education, the Administration, and the Pittsford District Teachers Association.

  3. To maintain an awareness of and a sensitivity to the retirees of the district and the contributions they have made in the development of the Pittsford Schools.

  4. To encourage retirees to continue their support, interest and active involvement in the Pittsford Central Schools and/or the community where they live.

  5. To inform members about the legislative efforts, services, and member benefits supported or provided by state and local teacher associations.

  6. To inform members about the association's decisions, services and activities.

  7. To support retiree benefits in Pittsford and strengthen benefits at the state and national level.

  8. To encourage retirees to vote and support political leaders who are strong advocates for educational and retiree issues.

  9. To support the aims and objectives of NYSUT.

  10. To lend a helping hand to fellow retirees.

  11. To share ideas, experiences and concerns that mutually affect the membership.

The Executive Committee, consisting of a president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, immediate past president and seven standing committee chair-people meets four times a year.

The standing committees are :

Communications, Health Insurance, Legislative, Membership, Political Action, Service, Social, PDTA Liaison, and Historian. The general membership meets twice a year to conduct business. There is a breakfast for new retirees each September and a holiday lunch in December. A newsletter is mailed to all members four times a year.

The PDRTA maintains a close working relationship with PDTA, the school district leadership and NYSUT.
